The Ballroom Takes Flight

Michelle & Caleb

There’s a special kind of magic that happens when a ballroom ceiling disappears—when the air above a dance floor becomes its own landscape, alive with movement, shimmer, and story. At Everline Resort in Olympic Valley, Sierra Lighting had the joy of creating exactly that: a floating canopy of delicate birds, each one catching the light in its own quiet way.

This installation blended two materials—reflective plastic and soft, sculpted paper—to create a flock that felt both ethereal and dynamic. The reflective birds scattered glints of color and motion as guests moved below, while the paper silhouettes added softness and depth, like a gentle breeze passing through the room. Together, they formed a suspended choreography that transformed the ballroom into something dreamlike.

Executing a design this intricate required precision, patience, and a steady hand at height. Every strand was secured with the same care we bring to our most technical rigging projects. Safety was our foundation; artistry was the reward. The result was a ceiling that didn’t just decorate the space—it animated it.

As the evening unfolded, the birds seemed to lift with the music, catching the warm glow of the ballroom lights and creating a sense of movement that made the dance floor feel alive. Guests looked up as often as they looked at each other, drawn into the atmosphere created above them. At Sierra Lighting, we love projects that invite people to feel something unexpected. This one invited them to look up—and find a sky full of wings.
